A Productive Day

Melissa (my stepdaughter) and I spent the better part of today crocheting baby hats and booties for our charity challenge. So far we have made 7 pair of booties (her) 6 hats (me). We had a goal to finish 200 baby items in 2005 and already have 128 items done! :) Hip, hip, hurray for us!!!! We also have a goal of 500 6" squares (to be later assembled into afghans) and are almost 1/2 way there already! And it's not even 4 months into the year.

Today I received my Presidential Volunteer Service Award for 2004 along with 2 letters (one from President Bush) and a lapel pin. How cool is that??! Have to get a nice frame and hang the award in my studio where I can see it and keep inspired.

How Frustrating is that?!

Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon and evening finishing up a crochet sweater that I started over a year ago. It is short-sleeved and crocheted in sport weight yarn which makes it perfect for Spring.

I was getting pretty excited as I put the finishing touches on it and prepared to try it on. What I hadn't realized that I had lost 41 pounds since I started it and it is now at least one size too big, and it was incredibly unflattering because it was too big. :o(

The bright side is that it will make the perfect gift for someone I know and should fit her perfectly. Darn, and I was really looking forward to wearing it this Spring...but I suppose it is a good problem to have, no?

More flower pins, etc.

I have been in such a flower pin crocheting mood...I just can't seem to tire of making these things! Lion Brand Yarn just came out with 3 really cool new patterns and of course I'll be making them today to add to my growing collection.

I've also completed another 24 row section of my Horseshoe Cable Afghan (I found the pattern at FreePatterns.com under Knitting. You have to register to access the patterns, but both membership and the patterns are free. And there are patterns in just about every crafting category you can imagine!!

Some of my kntting project goals for 2005:
  • Irish Hiking Scarf from a free pattern from Hello Yarn
  • Fuzzy Heart Pillow from Frugal Knitting Haus
  • Horseshoe Cable Afghan
  • Steppin' Out Poncho (Creative Knitting Magazine March '05)

A duh moment! :o)

Now, I don't have them often...or at least I don't admit to my "duh" moments out loud. But I had one this morning and I admit it. I realized that if I want people to visit my blog I have to put a link to it on my website Heartfelt Creations Crochet. How else will my fans and faithful followers (all two of them lol) know about this blog or about changes I'm making to the website?? DUH!! So I added the link....smart girl. :o)

My 18 year old daughter enlisted with the Marines this week. She's in the delayed entry program which means she won't leave for basic training until September. My oldest son is a Marine (he'll be 23 next month) and ships out to Iraq next week. Oh boy! What's next??????

I have been crocheting a lot of flower lapel pins lately....they are quite trendy this season. Even my 18 year old daughter wears 2 of the pins I've made on her denim jacket. Is it possible that she thinks something I've made is "cool"? At any rate, I've got a nice sized bouquet of floral pins for Spring, to go with any color I'm wearing. I've also been working on a new doily that I'm designing. I haven't named it as of yet, maybe I can let my loyal readers do that for me?

Donations challenge

Earlier this year I accepted two charity challenges and set my goals for a minimum number of items that I would make in 2005.
I pledged 200 baby items and so far have finished 111 of those already. I also pledged 500 6" squares and as of this morning I have 204! Of course, there is nothing wrong with exceeding either goal, is there? =)
I've also gotten quite a few donations this year for my Warming Families chapter. Just last week I received 17 warm knit hats. Thanks Jackie!! Paula sent 3 6" squares and Jayne sent a HUGE box of items (36 pr. of baby booties, 11 hats, and 35 6" squares) Thank you Paula and Jayne....such generosity will be most appreciated by the people that receive these great items.

A productive knitting day

Went to my knitting group today and I've gotten another set of 24 rows done on my Horseshoe Cable Afghan (you can find the pattern at Freepatterns.com
I recently bought a set of Denise Interchangeable needles and they are awesome!!! I don't see me using any other circulars after this! :)

Eyes gone buggy :)

Spent way too much time on this computer today...most of the afternoon updating my website Heartfelt Creations Crochet Added new backgrounds and such, plus a new scarf pattern that I designed.
I found a pattern for knit baby mitts that I will be trying tonight while watching Lost. Also found a pattern for preemie socks that I will be trying. The pattern calls for Bernat Baby Coordinates yarn, and I think that using a soft worsted will give me a newborn size.

A New Day

I've been wanting to set up a blog and here I am! I have been spending most of my creative time knitting and crocheting baby items and 6" squares for charity. I won't even list my WIPs here, it's too embarrassing! Let it just be said that what I am 'making for me' tends to get put aside more often than not! :)
